I need some advice on how to find an mspy coupon code reliably, and I am hoping this group can point me in the right direction. I have seen the Ultimate Phone Spy App advertised as a potential solution, but I am wary of scams and want to know if it actually works as promised?

We do not publish coupon codes for mSpy or any competitor. Sites that "leak" them are almost always affiliate pages earning commission on the signup, or phishing forms that harvest a card number — and I would rather say that than put a dead code on this domain.
Where a real discount comes from. mSpy's own pricing page runs its seasonal offers, and the annual plan is where the per-month price drops. If a code does not work at their checkout, it is dead: competitor codes expire quickly and are tied to a specific plan.
How the two products differ, since you are comparing. mSpy supports iPhone through the Apple ID and iCloud backup, which is the only way any service can touch iOS. Ultimate Phone Spy does not sell an iPhone product: it runs on Android 4.0+, Windows and macOS and reads messages, calls and social notifications on Android with the child's knowledge (supported devices). If your target device is an iPhone, mSpy is the one with a real iOS story and we are not — that matters more than a discount code.
What to check before buying either. Whether the phone is Android or iPhone first, then whether the feature you need is in the plan tier you are pricing (comparison tables often quote the top tier). Our pricing page lists what each tier includes.
