    Protect Your Device Today

Don't wait until it's too late. Set up phone recovery protection now and have peace of mind knowing you can always find your device.

A lost phone is a time-critical problem with a fixed order of operations: locate, lock, alert, then decide about wiping. This guide sets out what a monitoring dashboard can do, what the platform's own find-my-device service does better, and the steps that actually recover a device or protect the data on it β€” in the order that gives you the best chance.

    The first ten minutes

Open the platform finder first β€” Find My Device on Android, Find My on iOS. It is system-level, works when third-party apps have been killed, and can ring, lock or erase without any monitoring account. Then check the monitoring dashboard for the last reported location and the last sync time, which tells you whether the phone was still online after it went missing.

Then call the number. A phone found by a stranger is usually answered, and a lock-screen message with a contact number and a small reward recovers more devices than any technical measure.

    • Platform finder: last location, ring, lock, erase
    • Monitoring dashboard: last known position, last sync, SIM events
    • Carrier: suspend the line to stop calls and data charges
    • Banking and email: change passwords from a different device
    • Police report with the IMEI, for insurance and for blocking

    What the monitoring dashboard adds

Two things the platform finder does not: a history rather than a single point, and SIM change alerts. If the SIM is swapped, the event records the new carrier and the location at the moment of the change β€” often the single most useful record in a theft.

The dashboard can also lock the device with a message on screen, and in some cases capture a photo of whoever is holding it. That last capability is legally sensitive: in many jurisdictions taking a photo of an unknown person without consent is itself a problem, and it should be used only where a police report exists.

What cannot be done, and why going offline changes everything

A phone that is powered off, in airplane mode, or factory reset cannot be located, reported from, or recovered by software. A factory reset removes the monitoring app along with everything else, which is why the IMEI block and the police report matter more than any app once a thief has wiped the device.

For the same reason, a phone that is offline shows a gap rather than an error. The last location in the dashboard is the last time it reported, not the last place it was.

    After recovery

Change the device passcode and the dashboard password, check for new accounts and app installs, and review the SIM history for changes made while the phone was gone. If the device was wiped, reinstall and reconfigure rather than restoring an old backup that may predate the theft.

Then write down the IMEI somewhere that is not the phone. The single most common reason a stolen device is never blocked is that nobody knew the number when it mattered.

    Frequently asked questions

Can a stolen phone be tracked after a factory reset?

No. A reset removes the monitoring app. After that, only the platform's account-level protection and an IMEI block can help.

Does it work if the phone is off?

No. A powered-off device reports nothing. The dashboard shows the last position before it went offline.

Should I wipe the phone remotely?

Only once you have decided recovery is unlikely. A wipe protects the data but ends any chance of locating the device.

What do I need for a police report?

The IMEI, the model and colour, the last known location with timestamps, and the SIM change record if one exists.
