Cogi is effectively dead — the app was pulled and its service discontinued, so existing recordings are hard to retrieve and new signups are not worth attempting. The alternatives depend on which platform you are on, and Android is the only one with real options.
Android (works properly):
- Cube ACR — records both sides on most devices, free tier with limits, needs the right audio source per manufacturer.
- Boldbeast — paid, per-device licence, the most reliable two-way recording on Samsung and Xiaomi.
- The built-in recorder — Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Pixel (in supported regions) ship call recording in the dialer. Check Settings → Call settings before buying anything.
- Google Voice — record incoming calls with a keypress, US numbers only, free.
iPhone: only iOS 18.1's built-in recording (announced to both parties), a conference-bridge app, or hardware. No third-party app can record cellular audio.
The legal rule, since it outranks the tooling: one-party consent states allow recording a call you are part of; two-party consent states (California, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania and others) and most of the EU require the other person's agreement. Recording a child's call in your own household is usually lawful; recording a partner's or employee's is where it becomes a crime.
Where our app fits. Ultimate Phone Spy runs on Android 4.0+, Windows and macOS (supported devices) and logs call history — number, duration, timestamp — without recording audio, which keeps it on the right side of that line.
