I am on the hunt for a reliable solution and was wondering if anyone can help with: best monitoring software for mac? I keep seeing the Ultimate Phone Spy App recommended in various forums, but I want to know if it genuinely delivers on this specific feature?

For a Mac, the built-in options cover most family needs: Screen Time gives app usage, limits, downtime and web restrictions, and Family Sharing covers purchases and location. Third-party Mac monitoring exists but is thinner than on Windows, because macOS requires kernel extensions and full disk access that Apple has been tightening for years.

    What genuinely works on macOS:

    • Screen Time — free, per-app minutes, limits, downtime, content restrictions. The best starting point by a distance.
    • Microsoft Family Safety — free, if the family uses Microsoft accounts; works on Mac and Windows.
    • Qustodio / OurPact — agent on the Mac, web filtering via a local proxy, activity reports. Reliable but limited: no keystroke-level detail without permissions Apple now restricts.
    • Apple Configurator — supervisory profiles for a Mac you manage, the strongest control and the most work.

What does not work well: stealth monitoring apps. macOS requires the user to grant Full Disk Access and Screen Recording in System Settings, so a "hidden" agent on a modern Mac either shows up or cannot see anything. Any vendor claiming invisible Mac monitoring is overselling.

Where our app fits. Ultimate Phone Spy supports macOS as well as Windows and Android (supported devices) and reports screen activity, keystrokes and app usage from a monitored Mac. It needs those permissions granted during setup, which is the honest trade — and it works best on a Mac you own and administer.
