I am testing an authorized family-safety setup on a device I manage. Which options work with clear consent, and what Messenger limitations should a parent expect?

A legitimate parental-control service cannot produce Messenger conversations from a phone that was never authorized, configured, or connected to the service. Claims that only a phone number is needed are a warning sign. Do not enter a child’s or adult’s Facebook password into an unknown “remote viewer.”
For a child’s device that you own and supervise, start with Meta’s Family Center and the phone’s built-in family controls. Third-party options may provide activity or communication information, but the setup and available Messenger features differ sharply between Android and iPhone:
Explain the monitoring rule to the child, use a parent-only account with two-factor authentication, and collect only what is needed for the stated safety concern. Neither product should be used to access an adult’s Messenger account without permission.
