How can I screenshot a Snap on iPhone without the other person knowing?

I am trying to understand how Snapchat screenshot alerts work on an iPhone. Does Snapchat always notify the sender when a screenshot is taken? If I need to save evidence of a genuine safety concern, what is the lawful and respectful option that does not violate another person’s privacy? This is a moderation workflow test—please do not publish it.

Snapchat is designed to notify the sender when a recipient takes a screenshot or screen recording. Notification behavior can change with app versions, network delays, and the type of content, so it should not be treated as a perfect audit trail. We cannot help bypass the alert.

If the Snap contains a genuine safety threat, evidence of bullying, sexual exploitation, or an immediate risk, preserve it in the safest available way even if the sender may be notified. Write down the username, date, and time; use Snapchat’s in-app reporting controls; and tell a trusted parent, school safeguarding lead, or appropriate authority. Do not repost the image or send it around a group chat.

For disappearing content involving a minor, avoid installing “secret screenshot” apps or giving an unknown service Snapchat credentials. Those services can expose the account and may capture far more private data than the single item you are trying to preserve.

If the issue is ordinary conversation rather than a safety incident, ask the sender before saving their content. The notification exists to give people context about how their Snap was handled.
