Qustodio works by installing an agent on the child's device that reports activity to a parent dashboard and enforces limits. On Android it has broad access (app usage, web filtering, calls and SMS metadata); on iOS it is limited to what Apple permits — Screen Time data, web filtering through a local VPN, and location. No version reads iMessage or WhatsApp content.
What the dashboard shows: time online, apps used with durations, websites visited, searches, YouTube history, location, and for Android, calls and SMS metadata (who and when, sometimes content on Android). Limits: daily schedules, app blocks, bedtime, and a panic button.
How the plumbing works, briefly: a device administrator (Android) or MDM-style profile (iOS) plus a VPN tunnel for web filtering. The VPN is why it can filter every browser — and why some children notice the "VPN active" icon.
Where it is strong: reporting quality and stability, especially the app-by-app time breakdown. Where it is weak: iOS depth — no message content, no social chat — and the price has climbed sharply for families with more than a couple of devices.
Where our app fits. Ultimate Phone Spy runs on Android 4.0+, Windows and macOS (features) and goes deeper on Android messages, call logs and social notifications where Qustodio stops at metadata. Qustodio is stronger on iOS, where we do not sell at all — pick by the phone, not the marketing.
