Roku cannot limit viewing time. There is no timer, no schedule, no daily cap anywhere in Roku OS — the only time controls in the ecosystem are Netflix's own "bedtime" style features inside the app and the TV's sleep timer if the set has one. The practical fix is at the network or the power strip.
What works, in order of reliability:
- Router schedule — most routers (and mesh systems like eero, Google Nest, Deco) let you pause a device's internet on a schedule. Roku needs internet for everything, so a 9pm cut-off ends viewing immediately and cannot be bypassed from the remote.
- Smart plug on the TV — schedule the socket. Blunt, unarguable, and it also fixes the "TV left on all night" problem.
- Roku's own "Bandwidth Saver" — not a parental control; it only stops playback after four hours of inactivity. Do not mistake it for a time limit.
- Per-app limits — YouTube's "remind me to take a break" is opt-in and a child can dismiss it. Netflix has no per-day cap.
What does not exist: a Roku PIN that limits hours, per-profile schedules, or a kids mode with a clock. Roku's parental story is maturity ratings inside individual apps, nothing more.
Where our app fits. Ultimate Phone Spy runs on Android 4.0+, Windows and macOS (features) and does not manage TVs. For a Roku, a router schedule is the answer I would give my own family.
